Many of you took the time to tell us “What the Workshop Means to Me” at the end of 2020 and it lifted our spirits and reminded us of the incredible community that surrounds us. As we close out this unprecedented season, we asked the staff to join us in letting you know What YOU Mean to the Workshop!
“Our supporters not only believed in and gave toward the work we made during this difficult time and the future projects we are planning, but they made the livelihoods of our artists and our staff possible.”
“As we have moved through these last 14 months, full of anxiety, fear, uncertainty, and confusion, the steadfast support of our members and donors has been a beacon of relief. Your faith in our common cause meant everything to us. It is no exaggeration to say that we simply would not have come through it without you there to insist, with your generosity (financially, yes, of course, but maybe more importantly, your generosity of spirit), on our doing so. The demonstration of your belief in the value of what we strive to do sends us into this next phase of recovery and rebirth with such confidence—yet another gift from you all.”
“When I walked out of the Workshop on March 12, 2020 I honestly thought we would be back in a few weeks, at worst, a few months. There were so many mixed emotions and as we scrambled to make sure we were taking care of audience members and reaching out to share updates and handle ticketing credits and refunds. What I quickly realized is how big the hearts in this community were – we were overwhelmed in the best possible way by the most inspirational, generous, and encouraging messages. So many of you simply wanted to know how we were holding up as people and that meant the world to us. So THANK YOU for your kindness, your continued support and for truly exemplifying community during a time when so many of us craved the connections we lost during this period of stillness.”
“NYTW continually asks you to step outside your comfort zone, to try something new, and you all took that to a whole new level this year! Your enthusiasm and excitement for the Workshop and its mission are just one of the reasons I’m thrilled to show up to work.“
“Thank you so much for showing us theater can survive the toughest of tests! We would not have made it through this year without all of you.”
“A heartfelt thank you to our community of members and donors from the Education & Engagement Team. Your support makes our intergenerational work in schools and communities possible. This year saw us taking that work with youth, elders, and many schools and community partners to the virtual space. Thankfully, in the midst of challenges, we were able to nurture the folks we serve and continue to provide spaces for learning, joy, healing, celebration, and artistic expression. Thank you for helping us to make this essential work a reality and for believing in the transformative power of theatre for everyone! “
“Getting to know you all through this time has kept my spirits up, and I am forever grateful to have landed at the Workshop when I did. Over the last year (plus!), you have taught me so much about kindness, patience, loyalty, generosity, adaptability, and what it means to truly be in community. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for everything that you do for the Workshop. Incredibly proud and blessed to be part of this big family!”
“It’s a singular privilege to get to work alongside remarkable artists and to usher the fruit of their gifts and hard work to a community of engaged and enthusiastic champions of theatre.”
“It has been so meaningful to have the chance to support artists and create new kinds of work during this time. Thank you for supporting us, making that work possible and more importantly engaging with the work! Where would we be without you? Grateful for all that you have done for us and grateful to be in community with you. Thank You.”
“That our community would reach out and support us so generously and wholeheartedly this year meant the world to me. Our supporters not only believed in and gave toward the work we made during this difficult time and the future projects we are planning, but they made the livelihoods of our artists and our staff possible. They allowed our internal community to stay whole and they allowed me to keep doing the work I find so meaningful. I know I will remember and feel gratitude toward the generosity of our supporters this year for the rest of my life.“
