Cazares is a surrealist, nonbinary playwright whose works have brought them acclaim for their candid dives into the absurdities of sex, squalor, and capitalism. In this interview, Cazares talks about their HIV positive status, their upbringing, and need to demolish white mediocrity in art.
“There’s something dangerous to people that keeps them from centering people who are HIV positive and our needs—and our need to feel like our lives are worth living. Our lives are not any less because of this infection.”
